Need Some Help Choosing Your Kitchen Cabinets?

When it comes to choosing units for your brand new kitchen you’re either going to love the experience – or hate it. There’s not much in between really. Having spent decades fitting kitchens at My Beautiful Kitchen we’ve seen it all.

Why would you hate choosing something you’re going to face first thing every morning for the next decade at least? The most common complaint we hear is that there’s too much choice. That’s choice between material, trim, finish, price… there’s a lot to think about. Right now we’re going to try and make it a bit easier for you by breaking it down into manageable chunks:

So What About The Quality Of The Kitchen Cabinets?

Not being an expert kitchen cabinet manufacturer yourself, just how can you tell what’s worth buying… or not? One mark of good quality kitchen units is whether it’s rigid built or flat pack. Pre built kitchens are far superior and although they might cost a bit more initially they are a far better option in the long run.

You can also check to see if the kitchen your looking at comes with soft close doors and drawers as standard, another sign that’s it’s good quality. Also there is things like the depths of the wall units, make sure you can fit in a full size dinner plate. You can also look at the number of holes they have for shelf options.

Another is mechanisms in the drawers which make them close softly.

Also check the number of wall mountings they come with – the more the merrier (you’ll be). Take a look at the trim on the showroom model too. Is it still neat? All of the kitchens cabinets at My Beautiful Kitchen are custom built to meet your individual requirements.

How much will my Kitchen Cabinets Cost?

It’s a good idea to decide on a price point and stick to it. It’s easy to get carried away by fancier finishes or a flashy design but really it should be about function, quality and what you can afford. Choose a kitchen that does what you want it to do and isn’t going to fall apart the first time you slam a door too hard.

Style Within The Kitchen

What does the rest of your kitchen look like ie does it get a lot of light? If so you’re safe with a darker cupboard colour. If not, you could do a lot worse than opt for a light reflective (gloss) surface. Don’t choose anything that’s too difficult to clean though (textured), or that stains easily because if there’s one place there’s going to be a lot of spills, steam and smeared food, it’s the kitchen.

Remember too that styles change and it’s easy to get fed up with a design that seems fabulous on first sight. That’s why it’s a good idea to get high quality carcasses (built cupboards) where you can just change the doors and panels at a later date.

Tempting Extras For Your New Kitchen

It’s the finishing touches that can make an ordinary kitchen look like a design number. But this is where it’s easy to get carried away and spend that extra money you’ve carefully nestled close to your chest. We’re talking here about:

• under cabinet florescent lighting (to illuminate work surfaces)
• a carousel unit to make the most of corners
• a pull-out cupboard on runners, again for storage purposes
• a wine or spice storage rack
• a towel rail or tray storage area
• a pull out waste bin
• a pull-out table (to maximise space)

We could go on (as we’re sure you’re aware).

Don’t sit at home – or the office – feeling confused though. Give us a call at My Beautiful Kitchen and we’ll happily talk you through the above. Buying a kitchen is a big deal – and you definitely want to get it right first time!

Hope this helps
