Choosing The Perfect Kitchen Worktops

Choosing The Perfect Kitchen Worktops

Kitchen worktops mainly come in four different types. Choosing which is right for your kitchen comes down to three main factors: appearance, durability and cost.

Durability is particularly important as hot pans, knives and cleaning chemicals will take their toll over the years and the more durable the worktop, the longer it’ll retain it’s original appearance.

So let’s go through the options…

Laminate Worktops

The primary benefits of Laminate worktops are lower cost and the vast range of colours available.

Laminate surfaces are a popular choice for people who don’t want to spend the earth on their worktops. They’re hard-wearing, resistant to heat and very easy to maintain.

They’re also available in a wide range of colours, so they’ll fit in with whatever colour scheme you want for your kitchen.

The downside is that the quality and durability will never match wood or granite but, if properly looked after, laminate worktops will last for many years.

Hardwood (Real wood) Worktops

There’s something special about the look and feel of natural wood. Hardwood worktops will look great in almost any kitchen. Unlike other surfaces that look worse over time, wood ages very attractively.

It’s also easy to repair. If the surface becomes scratched or damaged, the surface can simple be sanded away.

Quartz Worktops

Quartz is the Rolls Royce of worktops. Yes, they’re pricier, but if you want the feeling of having the best, then they’re the choice for you.

Unsurprisingly, quartz comes top for durability – it’s solid stone, after all. It’s hard to scratch and highly stain resistant.

Composite Worktops ( Solid Surface )

Composite worktops like Mistral or Corian are designed to have the appearance of quartz or granite but have the dual advantages of being both cheaper and more versatile. Because they can be sanded, you get almost perfect invisible worktop. This – coupled with the huge range of colours – makes them a kitchen designer’s dream.

They’re one of our favourites here at My Beautiful Kitchen and ideal for someone looking for a bit of flair for their kitchen.
