New Heating – What Does It All Boil(er) Down To?

New Heating – What Does It All Boil(er) Down To?

When it comes to choosing a gas boiler for your kitchen, it’s not an easy decision to make.

The average householder will be an expert in many fields but at My Beautiful Kitchen we’re betting it isn’t boiler supply. And that’s why we’ve tried to make that decision in a bit easier for you by outlining the pros and cons of each boiler in this post.

The information should provide you with a more level playing field when it comes to making your mind up on what is, after all, a pretty expensive piece of equipment that you’re going to have around your home for a long time (or at least, that’s the idea!)

You’ve probably been advised already by friends and work colleague to go for a combi boiler. That’s because they’re the most popular variety these days and have been for a number of years now, certainly they’re the best seller in the UK for gas heating. Big pluses of this type of boiler is that it provides instant hot water and does away with the need for a space-guzzling water storage tank.

Choosing your new gas boiler

Not all combi boilers are equal. The best boiler by far is the Worcester bosch – not least because of its excellent five year guarantee. The bosch name is another indicator of course.

At My Beautiful Kitchen this is the boiler we recommend to clients. We’re skilled in installing it, having done so for a number of years now. Why do we recommend it? For a number of reasons:

  • Like all condensing combi boilers it’s efficient (up to 90 per cent in some cases) – and can save you hundreds if you’re replacing an old boiler
  • Parts are easy to obtain
  • When fitted the number of ugly pipes sticking out the bottom is greatly reduced.
  • It comes with multi-directional fluing which means you’ve a decent choice of where it can go
  • We’ve always have really happy customers after installing Worcester Bosch boilers – and that says it all as far as we’re concerned!

The type of boiler (size – rather than the name) is also important. For instance, if you’re looking to heat a house with four bedrooms rather than just one then you’re going to need a powerful boiler. Systems boilers are often used here. This is the type where you have a tank in the airing cupboard and the hot water is stored rather than instant (which means it can run out at any time!).

An open vent boiler is similar to the systems boiler but uses a tank in the loft and another in a storage cupboard which means hot water in several taps at the same time but again it can run cold.

You might also want to think about where you want your boiler to go. Some boilers such as the Worcester Greenstar 42CDi is wall mounted whereas others in the range – the Greenstar Highflow 440CDi – are floor standing.

If being eco-conscious is important to you and you’re considering solar panels in your kitchen ceiling or elsewhere then a combi boiler isn’t for you. This is because they are currently not designed to work with solar power and you’d be best opting for a regular (or conventional) boiler. By regular we mean a boiler and a cold water storage system as mentioned above.

Whatever you decide though, feel free to talk it over with us before making any hasty decisions. We’re more than happy to give you our opinion without any obligation.

Hope this Helps.
