Learn Tricks With Your Tiles At My Beautiful Kitchen

Choosing new tiles for your kitchen floor or walls can be a bit like trying to find that perfect outfit for your best friend’s wedding. You settle on one thing and before you know it your eye has been caught by something flashier and of course it doesn’t help when your other half insists on vetoing everything you show them.

It’s not all about looks of course. Like the outfit for your friend’s wedding, size comes into it and so does the question of whether it’s going to last the course.

Ceramic Tiling For Kitchen & Bathrooms in Glasgow From My Beautiful Kitchen

For backsplashes tiles made from ceramic and glass are always going to prove a good choice. Not only are they simple to keep clean, but there’s a massive assortment to choose from in terms of style, colour and price.

And don’t just opt for a simple square tile either. Skinny tiles measuring 1″ x 4″ look great and add a bit of uniqueness. Think about how you run them together as well. For instance, what would a horizontal tile look like if it was set upright?

For floors, think about investing in porcelain tiles. That’s because they are easy to keep clean, they don’t chip easily and the tiles themselves are pretty big in size which means less grouting is necessary (which can be a pain to keep clean).

Natural stone – such as marble or limestone – is more expensive but looks lovely on floors. It needs a lot more looking after though because it’s easier to mark and stain so always purchase the sealed variety unless you want to spend days on your knees scrubbing out tiresome marks.

Less expensive for kitchen floors are ceramic tiles that resemble stone. These are a fraction of the price of real stone, are easier to care for and there is no need to seal them. And, as modern manufacturing techniques improve, this type of tile is now difficult to tell from the real thing at first glance and occasionally even on closer inspection.

Grout

When it comes to looks, thinner lines (around 1/16” or 1/8”) of grout always look better than fatter versions as they are much easier to keep clean. Grout should always been sealed to try and stop it from staining. One of the latest trends is to match the grout to the colour of your tile (great if the tiles are grey as the dirt will never show up!)

Size

Big is best, according to kitchen designers these days. That means if you want to be fashionable, choose larger rather than smaller tiles, especially oversized rectangular ones. Large format tiles don’t just mean less grout to have to clean, they can also bring an element of drama and sophistication to an otherwise ordinary kitchen.

Now that we have you all fired up, before you go ahead with your grand tiling scheme always do a sample test on a piece of board. That’s because the grout can look different when it’s sitting alongside the tiles, such as looking darker or lighter.

And, of course, always get the work done by professionals. Speaking of which, if you would like further advice about designing your kitchen, or to discuss other kitchen renovation matters then please don’t hesitate to call us on 0141 771 3640
