Smart And Affordable Ways To Spruce Up Your Kitchen

Smart And Affordable Ways To Spruce Up Your Kitchen

In these days of recessionary up and downs and uncertain employment opportunities it can be a bit nerve wracking to suddenly splash out a whack of money on a complete kitchen refurbishment project but you don’t always have to go the whole hog to give your family home a kitchen make-over.

There are other ways of sprucing up your kitchen which won’t mean breaking the bank but will result in adding new life to a tired room – one in which you and your family probably spend most of your time.

At My Beautiful Kitchen we have a list of minor changes right here which may surprise you with the transformative effects they can have. You can hire us to design these changes or you can try a little DIY. Whichever you choose though, it’s a lot less expensive than a total kitchen refurbishment and might just be the change you’re looking for.

Change the countertops

A bit of a no-brainer really. This can really change the whole look of your kitchen, especially if you change from light to dark or vice versa. And it’s not just in terms of colour that you can alter the counter tops. Texture-wise can make a difference too. For instance, you might be a bit fed-up with the current laminate you have so why not opt for a different material such as granite or stone instead? Granite used to be costly but it’s come down in price quite a bit and is by far the more popular of the stone counter tops for kitchens.

Alter the lighting

By putting in different lights you can also change the ambiance of your kitchen quite dramatically. For instance under cabinet lights can give a warm glow rather a bright radiance to a kitchen and is great for sitting around relaxing at the dinner table after a meal. Side lights can have the same effect. Or how about updating the look by changing that glaring central light to more subtle spotlights?

Add some colour to your kitchen cabinets or walls

It’s not a big job to paint your kitchen cabinets but the change could well take your breath away.  Thoroughly wash the doors in soap and water first to get rid of any built up of grease and stains then remove the doors before painting. Sanding prior to painting is only necessary for really shiny cabinet doors. Paint with an oil-based primer (using both a roller and brush for the awkward places), then put on two coats of your chosen paint using a mini foam roller and angle-tipped brush. Wait around five days before putting the doors back up again to ensure there’s no smudging when fitting in the screws.

Jazz up the room with bright splashbacks

Another way to totally transform your kitchen is with coloured splash backs, especially if they’re made from glass which are reflective and can add an interesting perspective. Think about using mosaic tiles which can add a really fun element to a room and allow you to indulge your creative bent at the same time.

Hope this gives you some ideas
